Match Report Lunds VK B vs. Engelholm VS B 11/02/2017

A weekend full of attractive home games lied ahead of Lund and the men’s B-team had the pleasure to start first. The opponent was Engelholm, a team that won each match of the first half of the season. However, they did so with the help of many of their Division 1 players and “unfortunately” these players were busy with an own game this time. Thus, Lund was very eager to take revenge for last year’s very close loss (3-2, 15-11).

And indeed Engelholm brought a talented but still very young team to the Fäladshallen. But also Lund was missing the Henrikson brothers and so had a vacant position on the middle block, which, however, was greatly filled by C-team’s Tim Johansson. From the first ball onwards Lund presented itself highly concentrated and merciless. Although having a good defense, Engelholm was not able to find into the match and consequently the first set was won with a clear 25-13 lead. In the second set, Lund even shifted up to the next gear and dominated the opponent with a strong serving pressure and devastating attacks. Particularly setter Klas Bratteby scintillated with 13 (!) amazing serves in a row. Hence, set two was won with a 25-10 lead. Even in the third set Lund’s squad showed no fatigue and notably enjoyed the own game, which resulted in a 25-17 win.

Our fifth victory in row was again the result of a consistently high level on each position. The most valuable player honor went to right wing Jesper Nilsson who played without any errors in the offense and additionally saved a lot of Engelholm’s short attacks by throwing himself into every ball.

The team still has the possibility to win the league title, however, our winning streak has to last until the very end, preferably with no lost set. This is challenging but with our current form definitely not impossible. Next on the list is going to be Ystad who we will face again in Fäladshallen next Saturday at 16:45!
