After a fantastic second half of the season with only one lost set the men’s B-team of Lund went into its last match as the leader of the southern division 2. However, the league table was the tightest of all of Sweden with four teams still having a theoretical chance to become first on the last match day; actually the second Malmö was only behind with 38 game points. Therefore it was very fortunate that Lund awaited the league’s backmarker Vindrarps C in the domestic Idrottshallen.
And of course, we did not let this chance pass. Even though Vindrarp had improved a lot since the last face-off, Lunds VK B showed once again a highly concentrated performance and like all the top teams of the division the guests were literally shot out of the stadium. With a solid 3-0 win (25-14, 25-7, 25-11) the team cleared any last doubt about who is the designated winner of the series. In an overall very good achievement of each player, setter Lukas Wiener and libero Ali Babayan stood out the most. We would like to thank Vindrarp for taking the long trip down to Lund as well as the numerous visitors that cheered for us.
More than half a year after the club’s training camp and the declaration of the league title as the goal, the squad has shown that dedicated work and team spirit pays off. Despite some losses in the beginning of the season we never gave up and worked even harder, pushing each other to the next level. Playercoaches Simon Jepsson and Mikael Henrikson did a fantastic job and in spite of their studies always found the time to prepare the team physically, mentally and tactically for the next opponent.
Although some players will heavy-heartedly leave Lund for their next career step, the team is eager to take on division one next fall; hopefully with some new faces joining this marvelous troop. Until then we will defend our newly acquired honor at the upcoming tournaments!
We also like to thank all our supporters and our great practice partner the C-team with a loud 2-3 LUND!
