Match Report Lunds VK B – Åstorps VBK 09/10/2016

After a way too long summer break the Division 2 Södra Herr finally started this Sunday. With the best parts of last years C-and B-team the newly formed Lunds VK-B team faced the volleyball troop from Åstorp in the local Idrottshallen.

Despite the cold outside temperature the atmosphere was excited and some fifty people came to watch the first appearance of Lund’s second team, guided by the new captain Klas Bratteby.

And the weeks of hard running practices, training camps and burpees, organised by the new player-coaches Simon Jepsson and Mikael Henrikson, paid off. Åstorp was not able to defend itself against the attacks from Lund’s spikers, so that the first set was won with an impressive advance of 25-9. In front of all, the lengthy trained receptions and cross-attacks lead to several very beautiful points.

In the second and third set, Åstorp improved a lot and Lund allowed itself some mistakes in the block and communication, so that the edge somewhat shrank. Nevertheless, Lund kept enough focus to win both sets safely and so the match ended with a confident 3-0 win for the home team.

As the MVP of the match the team chose left-wing Gustav Svensson; a title he earned through save receptions as well as sneaky and smart hits winning a lot of balls for his team.

Our thanks go to Åstorp’s team, the referees and especially to the numerous spectators cheering for Herrar B. The next home match will take place on the 5th of November when Lunds VK B will face Örkelljunga in Fäladshallen. We hope again for a lot of interested fans and are sure that we will be able to defend the first place of the league we won through this massive start in the new season!
