Match report KFUM Malmö vs. Lunds Herrar B

The mood and the expectations were high after Lund’s second men team drove to Malmö in order to face the local rival in Heleneholmshallen. After the first commanding win, the boys were keen to defend the early first place of the league table.

But there were also a lot of question marks: last season Malmö had two teams, being now combined to one single team; a circumstance that made it hard to assess the opponent’s strength in advance. Therefore, the best way to find out was meeting them on the court!

And this meeting turned out to be match between two equally strong teams that did not intend to grant the other team any point at all. Both team impressed through their good receptions and blocking, so that the visitors were able to see lengthy rallies and intense fights at the net.

And indeed, the guests from Lund managed to win the first set. However, in the next two sets Malmö showed striking learning skills and found more and more gaps in Lund’s otherwise very solid defense. Therefore, set two and three went to the hosts, although Lund could be considered as a most equal opponent. Unfortunately, this did not prove itself in the fourth set, when Lund lost it focus and Malmö eventually won the match deservedly.

Lund’s man of the match was libero Lucas Gardebrand. Although affected by shoulder problems he did not spare himself to save several balls for his team and he was surely one of the main reasons for Lund’s all in all good performance.

There are two things that can be learned from this match: first, Malmö has sent a very strong team to the run about this years promotion. Second, Lund’s Herrar B is definitely competitive and must now focus on reaching the next higher level.

The closest chance to do so is the match against Örkelljunga B, which we will face in Fäladshallen on the 05.11. at 16:45.
